Am working on a similar project. I intend to build a DAQ system which can be interfaced to the computer via USB. Atmel's AT89C5131 micro-controller has built-in USB + all the standard features of 8051 so am thinking of using that for my project. For further info you could visit Atmel's webpage www.atmel.com
