I don't think you could get away with that! The LCD RAM is a dynamic deal, I believe, so it's always using the main & user character generators (correct me if I'm wrong, anyone!). Apply some lateral thinking to you messages, or use the smallest display you can find!

The other way, of course, is to use a graphics display, then there is no limit.
BTW, I have written a simple program to convert a 128x128 bitmap image (generated with PCPaint) to the data format for a certain graphics LCD.
