the cygnals have an onboard temperature sensor.. Could you use rand() to generate a different sampling delay in each chip.
There will always be the chance that two temperature readings will be constantly identical, this is not bulletproof. Re rand(), since all start at the same time and rand() always goes through the same sequence two devices will read the same 'random' number.
