DO not attempt to build ANY "programmer board" you will end up a) every time something is not right thinking "is it the programmer or the code" and b) never knowing whether the program is burnt in completely.

There is now a plethora of ISP chips, even Dallas has some, and with those you do not have to worry about any "programmer board".

PS If I remember right the Dallas ISP method is clumsy compared to Atmel, Philips and Cygnal.
