#6510 - RE: Engine Injection Timing
First of all, thanks for all the great ideas/suggestions so far.

I'm not allowed to give you too much info on the engine, because it's confidential. Luckily for me (because it's one less thing to worry about), the ignition is controlled by an idependant system, which is working very well at the moment. The injection as it stands has no advance/retard on it at all.. All that's happening at the moment is a timer circuit is triggered every rotation of the cam shaft (every 2 revs of the flywheel), it waits a set amount of time, and then fires the injector for a set pulse time. This means that for the majority of the time, the injection is completely wrong, and the fuel just collects above the valve until it opens. The fact the valve is pretty hot, means the fuel can occasionally burn on top of the valve, which is a bad thing!

Using a microcontroller, we are sure that we can stop this from happening, and I'm sure you'll agree it's pretty straight forward. Because this task on it's own is pretty light work for the uC, we're going to give a few other tasks to handle. Multitasking would suit them best.. and I agree, the breaks being soley controlled from the microcontroller is probably asking for trouble... we have some tricks up our sleeve in that department!

Cheers for all your suggestions... keep them coming if you have any more ideas... I am more than grateful anything you may come up with!

Matt.
