I'm relieved to see that everyone else is having trouble understanding your problem also. And since they've already addressed how simple this could be, I'm going to take the opposite approach and try to make this as complicated as I reasonably can. I am going to assume that you need to put the state of two bits from a port into the corresponding bits of a non-bit-addressable register without altering the values of any of the other register bits.
Step 1: Logically AND the port with a bit mask to an interim register. Step 2: Use that interim register as a bit mask to logically OR with the final register you want to modify. I'm afraid that's about as complicated as I can make it without consulting Rube Goldberg. I suppose one might have to do it twice if the two bits are on separate ports. |
