You want to use...P0.0 to P0.6 for data and P0.7 for signal???? How can you use one line for signal... Suppose, lets assume your master has Lowered the Signal on P0.7, then there is no way the slave can make it high.(Read the Bible)

Instead use two port pins for signal One in Masters' control and the other in slaves control. I've done it before and it works fine...
Also, I used an entire port for data transfer and two pins from other port for signals.
