My job is to implement a design using the microcontroller -- not to reinvent the wheel by designing a flash chip programmer. It has nothing to do with pride and confidence.

Besides, there's no reason not to use an ISP micro these days, unless you're supporting a legacy design and you don't want to change the artwork, or something.
