#70040 - RE: Museum Grade Technology Responding to: ???'s previous message |
The 8282 is an 8-bit wide transparent latch. The original part from Intel was one of the first available latches on the market place to perform this function. It was of course a must in the earliest 8085, 8051, and 8086 system designs to have a chip that performed this function. Evidence of the museum status of this part is its mention on this web page:
http://www.cpu-museum.com/8086_e.htm Apparently the "museum grade" of this part also has an impact on its cost as well: http://store.gielectronics.com/8282.html The 8282 part was more recently available in a CMOS version as the 82C82. You can review the following two data sheets to see how very similar the part is the 74HC573 part. The '573 type part is now commonplace as the address latch in 8051 designs. Do note that the two are NOT pinout compatible. 82C82 Datasheet http://www.intersil.com/data/fn/fn2975.pdf 74HC573 Datasheet http://www.semiconductors.philips.com/acrobat/d..._CNV_2.pdf There is another similar part, the 74HC373, that is also an 8-bit transparent latch that has seen years of use in 8051 designs. As a matter of fact the '373 type part pre-dated the '573 type by a goodly number of years as common logic ICs transitioned through 74S to 74LS to 74C and then to 74HC type technologies.
