Iwould try to clcuate the steps and count them by using a constand in the on-chip ram. Of course you should do that for every angel, like 90,180,270,and 360, or you could use a constant to calulate 5 deg and multiply this one. Question:What type of controller are you useing?? Probaly there is a possibility to add a quiet small tool called Driver circuit to your BCD. In most cases it is possible to select the turning direction ver this IC's.
