A datasheet for the LCD that you are working with is always good to have around...do you have it? If not, visit the manufacturer's website and find it.

There are a lot of LCDs around, and a number of different controllers. You probably don't want to spend too much time writing code for the wrong display. The datasheet will tell you what your LCD requires for programming.
