#7143 - RE: Emit-4
Mak,

I received the emit kit (3.0) for free from Analog Devices, I answered a few questions on their microconverter page.

Wow, the demo is nice, it loads a background app on the pc that lets you use a web browser to talk to the included 8051 board (localhost is the url, takes place of a newsserver I think).

Using a standard browser, buttons and dials in a java web page let you dynamicaly control and read analog values on the board, connected thru a null modem cable to the pc.

I have been unable to reach their sales dept. on several tries, and have no idea what the 'real' uncrippled tools cost (royalty per system, and what abut the gateway code, is it source too?). Symantecs java screenbuilder will not install without a S/N, and the whole demo kit will expire in 60 days after install.

Their client list is a who's who, GE, Whirlpool, Carrier, Maytag etc.

Going after the "internet appliance", I guess. neat toy, but I'll bet the real thing is expensive.

Comments?

Randy
