Yes assembly is shuned by many for the simple reason that they NEED to have an understanding of the underlying hardware also. But is THAT not the great attraction to it ? You are the absolute master. You decide what register will handle what. You know which bit is where at any point. You can tell for sure what time it will take for a particular instruction to start and complete. You know which part of the RAM that your data is in. Oh you know everything about your software ( and hardware ).

And if you are coding for industrial controls without involved maths, then ASSEMBLY IS THE WAY TO GO. Its a religion for me.
