Regarding "LCD color", Josh could mean:

1. The "Contrast Voltage" of pin 3, which can be connected to a PWM pin of some 8051.

2. "LED color", the control can be done by different IO pins of 8051.

3. The expensive real color LCD, which is unlikely to be used for a clock display.
