yes, a full matrix would be very nice.

But on my view a simple matrix with the 8051 default peripheral usage and only one alternative pin usage for every peripheral should already do the job very effective.

Wat me drive crazy was the method, that every upper selection influence all following selections.

E.g. often the pin function was needed beside the peripheral function (e.g. sending a break on TXD, debouncing an interrupt by reading the pin inside the handler). And then it was very complicated to hold your function libraries up to date, if the pin always change by usage of other peripherals.
