I agree the manual is slightly confusing on this point.
the most confoosing is where the manyal states that " The alternate functions of P1 .... can be activated only if the corresponding bit latch in the P1 and P3 SFRs contains a 1" which based on the "must be 0 to be digital" is totally contradictory.

On a global note, I wish the techwriters when documenting the new and wonderful chips would state things like, for the ADUC, "The P1 SFR differs from standard".
