#79731 - Floating... Responding to: ???'s previous message |

The buffer has all 8 inputs ... connected to the micro pins but two outputs are floating... Hallo Prahlad, this is no 'floating'. 'Floating' is, when a high impedant point is not driven by a sufficient low source impedance, and when widely unknown leakage currents tend to drive potential to an unpredictable value. 'Floating' is observed, when points do not have any low impedant connection to a stable and well known potential. So, if you leave the input pin of a 74HCMOS gate unconnected, then this point will float. But if you leave the output pin of a 74HCMOS gate unconnected, then this point is forced to a stable potential by the low source impedance of output driver -> no 'floating'. Kai |
