I think also its your programmer.
I never reached the end with my programmer. Only the lifetime of the pins let me throw away one 2051. I think I programmed it about 1000 times before a pin was broken.

The 89C51 I haven never programmed many times, since I use the 89S8252 during developing (no need to remove for programming).
