The Infineon SLE44C series are pretty good.
Philips offers the WE and SmartMX series. If I remember correctly, Atmel used to sell 8051-based SmartCard controllers as well, but apparently no longer (in favour of their AVR core, it seems). Be aware that aquiring development tools might not be too easy. SmartCard controllers are secure devices, after all and manufacturers don't throw samples around, like they would with 'normal' controllers. If you get some firm backing from your college, it should be possible, though. Good luck! Rob. |
