Buying chips from unlicensed "distributors" has always been very risky. My only experience has been when trying to obtain outdated parts and what you get is often anybodys guess.

Another piece of information:
When buying in China, you usually buy from someone that is 5 or more layers away from the manufacturer and any request for information has to pass up those 5+ layers and down again which usually means it get lost.

I'm sorry, but the best you can do is to trash the chips you have, say "that was an expensive experience" and buy genuine Maxim parts e.g. from digi-key.

I agree with you, but I want to know myself, if and how it goes.
It was very interesting.
