#82250 - Rule of thumb
Responding to: ???'s previous message
* The most commonly used bitrate is 9600 bps and others are -usually- related by integer numbers (i.e. 4800, 19200, etc.)
* The UART always introduces a "/16" factor
* A standard derivative adds an additional factor "/12"
* Bitrates can only be derived through integer division

Putting this together we can say that, as a rule of thumb, any clockfrequency that is an integer multiple of 9600*16*12 (=1.8432MHz) can be used.

Standard crystal frequencies that comply with this are:
- 1.8432MHz (x1)
- 3.6864MHz (x2)
- 7.3728MHz (x4)
- 11.0592MHz (x6)
- 14.7456MHz (x8)
- 18.432MHz (x10)
....

Well, you get the picture :o)

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Rob.
