If I have the liberty of reproducing Atmel's picture:



It is quite possible that the term "solder gout" refers specifically to the solder as a big lump or blob across the pads that make the connection.

If you look up the term at www.dictionary.com you can see that this is actually an accepted alternate usage for the word gout.
