Hi Jerry,

If you don't need the special handshake modes of the 8255, use a '573 as an output latch & a '244 for an input buffer. Of course, you'll need some addressing logic ('138), & it doesn't take much more board space. The 8255/8155/8156(!) parts made a neat 2-chip soultion tho.
