Put simply - if the printer has a RS232 serial interface, your job will be much easier - otherwise search the web regarding parallel printer interfaces or look for a old IBM PC technical manual as it has a diagram of their parallel printer interface. This should give you an idea.

The other question is what do you expect to print? If it is just test, not so much of a problem. If you want to print graphics - expect a lot of work.
