Sascha is right, you need a DC supply around 3 or 4 volts higher than the final voltage after regulation, unless you use LDO regulators (Low drop out), which can work with only a volt or less across them.
These are linear regulators. If you need high efficiency you need to use switching regulators and those are harder to design in. Steve |
