#87185 - Fulll isolation from mains is needed!! Responding to: ???'s previous message |

i require to tap 240v ac mains voltage how do i do that after that i need to convert it from rms to dc (this i'm doing using the ic ad736) but my problem lies in tapping the voltage since i'm a information technology student i don't know much about voltages and current. It's not necessary to actually tap the mains voltage directly. A better approach is to use a saftey class II transformer and to analyze the signal at secondary winding. But take care: For a beginner it's nearly impossible to be able to fullfill all the saftey standards involved when experimenting with such stuff (providing double isolation, enhanced isolation, leakage paths, etc.). So, a better way would be to use an approved safety class II mains adapter providing an AC output of let's say 9V. This would guarantee full isolation from mains!! Nevertheless, to build up such an application an enormeous amount of engineering knowledge is needed. So, if you never did in electronics look for an educated person that can help you. Kai |
