Its nice to do PICs, but 20 pins also not much to occupy your pcb ??

I would suggest you embark on 8052 concept and start with 2051. All having bit addressable RAM unlike in PIC. You can't touch bits that straight as in 8052.

8 pins will lessen your real estate but would raise your headache as well when it comes to code them.
