It really doesn't matter how it works - don't worry about it.

You just need to know two things about the Carry Flag:

Some instructions affect it (ie, set it or clear it);

Some instructions are affected by it (eg, take a branch or not).

As Erik says, both these things are clearly described in the Instruction Set Manual.
