The Load capacitors are specified by the cystal manufacturer to be used with that crystal to get the correct frequency. However there are some oscillator designs that will not work correctly with the those load capacitors. We have worked with Fox crystal to evaluate the best load capacitors for our oscillators. The best performance is generally a smaller capacitor or no load capacitor at all. The results can be seen in this application note:
