While hardly the final word on the subject, at least this is fairly readable (for us English speaking types anyway):
http://www.beyondlogic.org/keyboard/keybrd.htm GB The link provided above is excellent; it was where I started when I wanted to learn about the PC keyboard protocol. However, as mentioned, it also is not the last word on the subject. As far as I know, IBM created the AT and PS/2 keyboard standards, and it was detailed in some of their technical reference manuals. I believe there was at least one for the original PC back in the early '80s, and another for the PS/2 some years later. I have tried to obtain copies of these to keep as desk references without success; if anyone knows where I can get them, please let me know. However, in my search for the definitive word on the protocol, I found a couple of documents that appear to be excerpts from IBM manuals: ibm_hitrc11.pdf and 8042.pdf. As I recall, the full protocol is not widely used oday, but this should pretty much be authoritative on the protocol. --Sasha Jevtic |
