Actual size of the hex file does not matter.

What matters are the addresses within the hexfile records.
Search 8052.com for "hexmap", run that utility, and it tells you, which areas are you going to program using your hex file.
If it is outside 0000-1FFF for AT89S8252, you did something wrong while assembling or linking your program.
