Another good source for an IR detector is Terry Weeder At Weeder Technologies. His web site is www.weedtech.com He sells an IR demodulator kit for about $35. You have to teach it what type of remote you are using by entering what he calls the learn mode (a jumper change).

I have had good luck with all of his products and would suggest you give him a try.
