There are several programs out there that allow you to create your own fonts/graphics. A brilliant idea using Microsoft Excel from Alberto Ricci Bitti was published in EDN. I proposed some improvements which you can find in a follow up design idea here

The idea is that you create a character in a matrix within Excel allowing you to see and adjust the appearance. The model in Excel automatically generates the hex codes associated with a particular character, and then writes it to a file for inclusion into some source code.
