Oh, one more thing: If you have enough ROM, a safe, secure softboot is indeed possible. At whatever address 0 jumps to you start with the data sheet in one hand to code a total absolute restore of ALL SFRs whether your program use them or not. Then follow with clear of RAM (which you probably already have) and now you have a safe maintainable softstart.
