Especially with embedded stuff, which will be very much application-specific and target-specific, there's not much use just having someone else's code (whether source or pre-compiled) if you don't actually understand how the thing works!

Using the 1-Wire bus requires an understanding of how to design the hardware to drive the interface, and how it works in order to write (or use) the software.
