#9700 - Project Collaboration Community (cont..)
Hello,

This subject is really a continuation of Mar Feo's subject thread lower down on this list. I restarted the subject in the hope that it may attract more peoples attention to it than if I simply added a thread to the exsisting thread (sorry Craig if that was a naughty thing to do!!).

I was interested to find out how many people who use this site actually do much 8052 work in their spare time. It seems to me that if we were to initiate some sort of project it would only be possible for people to work on it as a hobby. I shouldn't think many companies would be too keen on people sharing any work related code, nor working on the project during work hours!!!

I guess before any sort of project can be undertaken, it will be nessecary to findout how many people were interested in doing it, and what areas they specialise in and what they are interested in developing. I guess really there is only a limited number of things we can work on based on the fact that considering the distance between all of us, the development of one single piece of hardware is more or less impossible. Secondly, we would have to agree on a fairly low-cost piece of hardware to run any code we were to develop as a lot of us can't afford expensive development systems etc.. Last of all, what ever we did would have to be universally usful to all of us in order to be a success. It would also have to involve various embedded control and software techniques so that people from the varied areas in embedded technology would be interested in getting involved.

I think really, the only thing that would fit all the points I have described would be a complete RTOS, possibly with libary sets that could make use of some of the more powerful 8052s or simulate those features if they are not present on a smaller processor etc..

Other things we would need to consider are what language would things be done in (assembly, C, or something else), and perhaps even what compiler/assembler we should use. Development of a free complier/assembler could even be part of the project!!!

I guess I'm getting a little carried away here. I'm just trying to kick something into action or at least stir some interest!

What do you lot think?

Matt.
