| Ferranti designed all the equipment at Deptford, from the boilers to the alternators, to the (coaxial) distribution cables. He demonstrated that it was perfectly safe to drive a steel crowbar through the energised cable by holding a steel crowbar placed on the cable while a labourer drove the spike with a sledgehammer.
