These days the microcontroller idea is probably the best idea. Particularly if you are looking to have this be built into a product. On the other hand if this is a one shot measurement setup then I'd consider scrapping the idea of using I2C as the host side interface and instead buy a meter like this one:
This meter can measure frequency and make the reading available out a serial interface. Frequency range 10Hz-10MHz. They are sold here on eBay Michael Karas |
