If there are any non-linear steps between the raw data and the physical representation, then you will get different results. Common non-linear operations are look up tables, clipping and merging of sign and magnitude channels.
If the relationships are linear then filtering the raw data may give a performance benefit as the filter may perform rate reduction. |
