This is pure nonsense !

The schematic with direct driven bipolar transistors can be found on the original Intel, Philips, AMD, ... application notes.

So it must be proven as reliable.

Also I know no transistor, which can be burned with 10mA base current of about 170ns duration.


Otherwise also any other application with using the open drain characteristic must be illegal (keys against GND, software I2C, 1-wire, wired AND connections, ...).


But there is also a special hint given on using only read-modify-write instructions for so connected transistors, since otherwise a low level was read back and so transistors may be switched off unintentionally.
