It is sometimes tricky to get all the settings in hyperterminal perhaps... Lots of windows to go through, lots of places to check.
Try an alternative terminal program from http://bray.velenje.cx/avr/terminal/ (you might like to use it also later with the '51, it has a couple of nice and handy features), all the controls are on one single window nice and clear. Set you baudrate, bits, parity; handshake to none. Make a loopback (connect pins 2 and 3 on the D-Sub together); now what you type in Transmit window you should see in Receive window. Do the same at the end of the cable. Pull out '51 from socket (it's socketed, isn't it? :-) and short Rx and Tx there. If everything OK, move to what you are trying to do now. Jan Waclawek |
