Philips changed the entry point of the IAP firmware (and the ISP firmware, too! - check out) in newer devices in attempt to prevent runaway code from executing anything possibly harmful... I don't advocate this step of Philips, just explaining.

Philips, eveidently, reacted to customer complaints about "code" (nobody ever would complain about runaway code - they have no such thing) that entered ISP.

So, Philips changed the entry point and inserted a ljmp 0. Now there are complaints about a place in the manual that did not get updated and about "old" chips having the "old" entry point. are you cooked or are you fried ?

I know of no change (in any respect - not restricted to semiconductors) that has not been met with resistance from some, so, do we accept things as they are, or do we ask for improvements and accept the fallout?

If you want, I can find similar things in other manufacturers litterature.
