#101977 - Generic cra.. eh variations
Responding to: ???'s previous message
There always has been and always will be "cheap imitations" once a device becomes generic. The 2 resets of some LCDs and the inability of some USB to RS232 converters of driving ISP is just two examples.

Thus you have tow possibilities
a) overcome the "cute little differences"
b) buy a name brand

Thus, when a tutorial code does not work, do not blame the author, find out what is different with your hardware.

Another LCD code problem, where I do not in ny way put the "blame" on generics is that so many "reference codes" insert waits instead of probing the "ready" pin. If you do not want to do it right, then do not expect right results.

Erik

PS should I ever go back to LCDs (have a look a VFDs, they are GLORIOUS and have come down substantially in price) I would definitely do a double reset just to be sure. Maube the author of the tutorial should insert a comment "if LCD does not work, try inserting this code" (doubling the reset).
