Unfortunately, there's no such advantage, because you still need an OPamp at output, as buffer. Remember, that the R/2R ladder presents a huge source impedance (namely R), which will be much too high for most applications. Only the use of an additional OPamp will guarantee a low source impedance then.

Voltage mode shows the advantage of being able to omit the negative supply voltage, but at the cost of decreased precision (1LSB instead of 1/2LSB).
