#103361 - If it was so simple...
Responding to: ???'s previous message

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I understood it that if I always first connect the target, power it on and then connect the PC's parallel port, the HC's will do, won't they?

Why should atmel use a 74VHC244 if a simple 74HC244 does also the job??
What happens if you plug-in a powered programmer into the printer port? A series of chaotic and unpredictable pulses is given to the programming lines of micro. That's not at all a good idea, unless you know how the micro interprets these chaotic pulse trains...

Also, I somehow can't believe they will do any damage to the PC's parallel port,...

I never told this. Nothing destroyable happens in this case, only that the target is always powered if the programmer is plugged into the printer port. So, you cannot simple remove the target from programmer, because then the same happens as above, means a series of chaotic and unpredictable pulses is injected into the programming lines of micro.
