As you're assuming that a human operator is present, just have the processor light each segment individually in a known sequence. If there are any gaps, or if more than 1 segment ever illuminates simultaneously, the operator will know that there's a fault.

The whole objective is to save/minimize manual testing time.

Easy: do no field testing; Just do field replacement.
Testing/fault-finding/repair can then be done at leisure in a properly equipped facility with appropriately-qualified staff, away from the customer's view.

Ofcourse we need to make some assumptions like controller is working !!

With a field-replacement strategy, you don't even need to assume that!
