TCON is Bit Addressable, so you can use the SET instruction to set individual bits, or MOV to write all the bits at once. Just adding one thing which is not quite obviuos for the '51 beginners: as the TCON can be directly addressed, logic operations can be performed on it directly too, hence manipulating more bits at once; e.g. XRL TCON,#00010001 or similar.
