The point is that it doesn't matter what instruction you use - MOV, SET, XRL, or whatever - it is the value that ends up in the bit that is important!

As it says in the Tutorial,
To start the timer running we must set the TR0 bit

It doesn't matter how you achieve it - just so long as that bit ends up being set!
