Purely for the sake of example, let's say that your Least-Significant Bit (LSB) represents 1 gramme.

Your full-scale, 24-bit reading is 0xFFFFFF = 16,777,215 - nearly 17 tonnes!! :-0

Never mind the analogue electronics; how are you going to do the mechanical engineering to build something delicate enough to resolve 1g and yet strong enough to hold 17t ??!!
