#10526 - RE: Floppy Drive Interface to 8051 |
FD controllers chips are now obsolete and I am unable to get new components of this sort. The problem with these old Western Digital chips, that you can find on scrap Ataris is their mode of adressing. They are Motorola's 68000 (in synchronous mode) compatibles, with a R/W line. 8032 has /RD and /WR lines and timings are not immediately compatible. FDC are now included in SMD chips with 100 pins or more, difficult to sold without industrial specialized apparatus. It exists flash EEPROM memories for digital cameras, including interface with PC 1.4 MB Floppy disk driver. This is certainly the simplest way to connect a 8032 toward a PC's FD driver. Another way is to build an IDE interface with a 82C55 parallel port, for a hard or ZIP drive. A developper of Croatia had recently posted a mail on this subjet. |
